I hope the “Zoom” feature will work better someday. The zoom sometimes shifts slightly for no reason, which is very annoying. I suspect that the cause of my problem is that I have the “scale” set to 166% in my display settings

My Gmail account exists, but I never use it. I check it periodically to see if there's some old service I registered a long time ago that still sends things there, but the last six months it's been completely empty - so I expect to close it soon.
Only one I have is gmail. I haven't used it or checked in years, but I keep it cause... The idea was "Just in case...", but if I'm not checking it, I'm not sure what the point is.
I have a yandex account I used for special purposes, but those are no longer relevant, so it's either idling, or culled by yandex.

I have a new mail account that I just started using, but it will likely take me a year to fully move everything to that new account or otherwise sort out what doesn't need to be moved.
While I try my best to avoid the Google app store, being an android user makes wholesale use of another app market difficult, though I have been using f-droid wherever possible.

I’ve abandoned the major social media platforms and haven’t logged in to them in years. But I never took the step to actually delete my account. You could say I’m ghosting them.

Generally though: look at what the largest social networks are, and figure how many of those you want to list. After the first five or so it's largely moot. Power-law relationships mean that participation falls off rapidly after considering the market leaders. Meta (FB/Insta/WA), Alphabet (Google, Gmail, Android, YouTube), TikTok, WeChat.
Market leader Facebook was the first social network to surpass one billion registered accounts and currently sits at more than three billion monthly active users.
like many have said, I dont have control over linkedin and facebook, and I never had whatsapp, instagram accounts.
And I dont see amazon in that list, and amazon is a giant pile of invasive, labor exploiting, planet destroying shit. We havent used amazon since 2014.

hell yeah! I lost one router because I couldn't get WRT on it, so now I'm using an older linux machine with 2 nics while I work on acquiring another WRT compatible dedicated router. Also still have a working DVD ripper with a couple spindles of disks, and we are buckling down for the long haul. I'll turn off the net if I must, or just do mesh / ham shit.

Nothing at all! And yet they are that: an alternative. You have to go against the network effect.
Not so with mail. There's no disadvantage at all beyond a little work and potentially a little money to moving off gmail. You can still send mails to and receive mails from all other gmail users.
That's unique among the list given in the poll, and yet it has the fewest people moving off (in this sample).

GG to those who were able to delete WhatsApp. I could not for the life of me even attempt to convert my family to something else and when you travel internationally and meet people it's just impossible to replace.
strictly speaking i never had an account on Instagram, WhatsApp and LinkedIn. i had a Facebook account for all of a couple of weeks, many many years ago (possibly even two decades)
I dropped Facebook in the run up to Trump I. I've never had Instagram or WhatsApp. I tried LinkedIn ages ago (before I even moved to China!) and ... it did nothing for me so I dropped it. I've never had a Google App account.
Sadly I still have a Gmail account, but never actually use it for email except for some legacy accounts where it's too much a pain in the ass to change my confirmation address.
I hate Facebook but that's where the "old geezer" hobbyists hang out, so I check in from time to time. My trick is to bookmark groups and never look at the algorithmic feed.

I closed my account early (like 2012ish?). Got a stupid we are sorry to see you go email from them confirming it was done. Partner could confirm I was not listed anymore on Facebook. About 10 years later I started getting password reset attempt notifications. After a lot of these I went and logged in. Just logged in, everything is still there.
I'm now maintaining the login just to avoid identity theft.
sadly I think there's a slight benefit to keeping social media accounts open even if you don't use them in case there's an attempt to inpersonate you on those platforms. The now-defunct "Privacy, Security, and OSINT Show" podcast referred to the practice as "planting a flag".

The consent request should have no consents selected by default. This is insane that you need to opt out instead opt in for dozen of the checkboxes of ads brokers.
skip cookie banner, Tell people just to use Ublock Origin, even better tell Spyware companies to go after every single piece of spyware, and quit being rotten lazy.
A good way to avoid cookies is to avoid Google, as add-ons such as uBlock Origin can only be installed in a ‘watered-down’ form in both the browser and the search engine, whilst others such as Traffic Light, Privacy Badger and similar are not available at all; ad blockers have always been – and remain – the natural enemy of Big Tech companies such as META, Alphabet, etc. That’s why I’ve completely banned Google from my life 😜

but an US-based company. I switched from DuckDuckGo to Ecosia a few months ago and never felt the need to go back to it. I am using Ecosia at work, and also at home for my personal projects.
My problem with DuckDuckGo is it was using some russian search enginers, which as a Ukrainian I do not want my queries to go to. As far as I know there are no controls to disable some search engines it sends my queries to.

I've used #Gnome since it was added to Ubuntu, with some customisation to make it more traditional Windows task bar style. I love the multiple desktop support which helps me manage and switch between tasks (with shortcuts tweaked to move windows between each etc). Brave & LibreFox repopulate all the desktops after a reboot. Very slick.

Today we released GIMP 3.2 with major new features, including vector layers, link layers (smart objects), DDS BC7 export, better PSD import including PSB for large images, MyPaint 2.0 brushes, and much more!
Are those like linked smart objects? Layers that point to files? Because that is the single biggest feature that keeps me hogtied to Photoshop.
I sure hope it's possible to scale each linked layer in different ways. That's something that even Photoshop has not figured out how to do yet. I don't always want to use bicubic scaling. For example my pixel art requires nearest-neighbor scaling. My inking layers need to use bilinnear scaling to recreate traditional anti-aliasing.
I'll check it out when I see the name of the project finally isn't an ableist slur. Then I can be confident this is free software for everyone, not free as-in Ableism Welcome. It's disappointing, better luck next version 🫡

I hope the “Zoom” feature will work better someday. The zoom sometimes shifts slightly for no reason, which is very annoying.
I suspect that the cause of my problem is that I have the “scale” set to 166% in my display settings
