Fed up with Meta? Avoiding Instagram or Facebook isn’t enough to stop Meta from harvesting and profiting from your private information. Here’s how to limit Meta’s ability to monetize your personal data. eff.org/deeplinks/2025/01/mad-…
If you’re fed up with Meta right now, you’re not alone. Meta tracks you across millions of websites and apps and its business model relies on your data.
Also don't forget to check facebook.com/off_facebook_acti… to see which companies are dumping your info to Meta -- in many states you can make them stop doing it
Even if you don't have an account on any of the Meta sites or apps, you still have a "shadow profile" with info fed to them by thousands of companies
- Or, just don't use Meta services. Close your account(s) if you have/had them, and request that all data be expunged. (Although they collect data about even non-users.)
I would have to have a meta/facebook account to do any of what you suggested. How about a complete list of their data collection IP addresses so I can block them at my firewall to prevent embedded javascript from contacting them?
Someone told me that there is no lunch for free. All that you write and talk in whats app is converted in strategies by Meta. The AI ROBOT in what's APP are monitoring you! True ? Lie ? Who Knows ?
I've disabled Google Play Services and all Google apps. The only App that refuses to run is Strava, which is no loss, as I use OpenTracks. I have no advertising ID on my phone. Also run Privacy Badger & UBlock Origin on Firefox and reject most cookies, I also have 8 unregistered Nectar cards on rotation.
Not to gloat, but just for a giggle, I downloaded everything Google thought they knew about me... turns out it's around ⅝ of F.All.
I use Opera for Android and Linux. The desktop app has Privacy Badger on top of ad and tracker blocking. The mobile app just has the default add and tracker blocking, but still better than Chrome letting Alphabet and Meta track everything.
I am fed up with Meta because they block posts exposing the Israeli massacres in Gaza. They serve Zionism. You can't hide the truth in this day and age. I hate Meta and I hate the murderers. This is the only information you will ever get from me: I hate the disgusting murderers.
they changed how it looks to make it more complicated of course, but its good to have a fiddle around and change the settings for less "personalised adds" as they call it

New year, new release! In version 3.6 our code contributors added: 🧭 Bottom navigation (enable it in Settings > User interface, and give us some feedback on the forum) ↕️ Change order of menu items 🚮 Trash all played episodes from Downloads screen 🏠 Neater Home screen with empty sections 📶 Remember choice when attempting downloads via mobile data
first impression: I like the bottom navigation a lot! 🚀
Only drawback so far, but maybe I miss something. On the sidebar I could filter my podcasts by tags which I use a lot to organize my podcasts. With the bottom navigation tags seems to be completely useless, at least I couldn't find a way to access them. It would be great if tags could be added to the bottom navigation to have easy access to some kind of filtered view of my podcast subscriptions.
@bjoern Thanks for the feedback! We have an open enhancement request to display the tags at the top of the subscriptions screen, so they can easily be accessed. We hope that once that's implemented you'll have a good enough replacement for the tags in the side menu. (No concrete timeline at this point, though.)
By "be accessed" do you mean show a list of podcasts with that tag, or a list of episodes from podcasts with the tag? What I am missing with this workflow is being able to list episodes from all podcasts with a specific tag. Will this cover this use case? Or is something similar planned for the Episodes tab?
* Used the „Trash all played episodes” rightaway and deleted 1400 files, freeing up probably 70% of my SD card. That was a feature I was apparently yearning for for a loong time 😃 * Bottom Navigation: Nice, but don't wanna miss the drawer, so doesn't work as replacement for me, switched back
@Friesenkiwi Thanks for the feedback! Why wouldn't you want to miss the drawer? Is there anything that you're missing, or did you notice a clear downside? The idea is to – in the long term – drop the side menu. We believe the bottom menu offers a more modern experience and keeping both would mean increased maintenance work.
@Schaarsen Thanks for the feedback! It's expected that the side menu doesn't open, given that the bottom menu is always visible if enabled. But we should probably disable that setting if the bottom menu is active. We'll look into it!

Happy Birthday Firefox!

Bessere Lösung: Das #Fediverse (Mastodon, Friendica etc.). derstandard.at/story/300000024…
It's absolutely the right decision not to post on X anymore and I think other media outlets should follow suit. I also think the Guardian should consider posting their content on federated social media. #Guardian #TheGuardian

Secondary profiles when? (So I can have a pseudonym profile where people I contact from there or vice versa for example don't see my other name or profile picture)
I don't know since when you guys have this new purple-ish color palette for your brand but I like it! Is a color redesign coming? If so I'm looking forward to these changes across all your platforms.
When can I either make an account without a phone number or have something like a pseudonym that I can share attached to something like a fake profile so people I don't trust won't see all of the LGBT & furry stuff on my real profile?
it would be cool if we could join meetings in a browser and without an account. This would actually increase privacy as many people don't need their messages on their desktop (which is almost always more insecure than the smartphone anyway).
this is amazing. Now if only the video quality in calls was not of a 🥔 when compared to FaceTime/whatsapp maybe more folks would use these new features.
I just want my SMS support back. I've been hopping across half-a-dozen different free SMS apps that are either missing features or have those broken features. Everything just worked with Signal.
I also can't convince my friends to try Signal when I now don't use it.
